Sisterhood report for year 2000

Dear Fr. Michael, members of the Russian Orthodox Society and all parishioners of Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Church!

During the past year, our Sisterhood was involved in many activities. The Sisterhood prepared and served Sunday luncheons and held two very successful bazaars at Christmas and Easter. Many women from the parish gathered and together enjoyed making pelemenii, varenikii and bliny.

Not only were the ladies ready and willing to help the church but also so were the men. Two men who were outstanding in their help and who have taken upon themselves the hard and time-consuming task of making and rolling the dough are Igor Chudin and Arkady Kay. A huge and heartfelt thank-you to both of them from all the women for such a gentlemen response and participation. They also were instrumental in the purchase of a dough-making machine and in installing and operating it.

The following people deserve thanks for their contributions and for their work. A very special thank-you to Nina Chudin for her unceasing and cheerful help with both deed and word. Thanks also to the ladies who independently prepared luncheons during the year. They were Helen Kay, Raissa Kolesnikoff, Svetlana Stepanyak, Nadezda Katchov, and Sandra Ellis. Thanks to all those who brought beautifully prepared dishes for our potluck festivities our newly departed Tamara Mihailoff, Larissa Tkatschow, Jeanine Meroniuk, Matushka Elena Fourik, Mila MeCartney,Valentine Ladizhenskaya, Alia Bigus and many others.

Besides the usual luncheons preparations, the Sisterhood also prepared and catered the wedding reception of Marina and Pavel Sorokin on May 15. The beautifully decorated head table was finished off by a lovely three-tiered wedding cake created by Sandra Ellis.

In March and April, tea was served win many wonderfully prepared pastries and sweets. On August 20, Queen Elizabeth Park was the setting for the church picnic. Also, a memorial for the departed member of the Sisterhood, Pavla Belokurov was held in August. A total of $6042.75 was made with expenses of $1230.54 thus making a net profit of $4812.21.

The net income realized by the Sisterhood for the year 2000 was $11,717.15.
