Akathist to the Mother of God - November 2002

 

BISHOP SERAPHIM IN VANCOUVER

His Grace the Right Reverend Seraphim Bishop of Ottawa, the Ruling Bishop of the Canadian Archdiocese, arrived in Vancouver at 10:30 am on Friday, November 15, 2002. He was greeted at the airport by the Dean, Fr. Lawrence Farley, Fr. Michael Fourik, Fr. Andrey and Matushka Somow. His Grace has stayed here 7 days visiting all parishes of the BC Deanery and celebrating the Divine Services. On Saturday, November 16, 2002, His Grace served Great Vespers and the Akathist to the Mother of God at Holy Resurrection Sobor in Vancouver. On the next day, on Sunday the Pontifical Liturgy was celebrated. Concelebrating were: Rector of Holy Resurrection Sobor - Fr. Michael Fourik, Fr. Stephen Slipko, Fr. Andrey Somow and Fr. James McLuckie. Assisting at the Pontifical Service were Sub-Deacons: George Vishniakoff, Constantine Somow, Dennis Stepaniuk, Anton Koskinen, Sylvester Zuck, Dimitri and Stanislav Shevchenko. On Thursday, November 21, 2002 was the Great Feast – Entrance of the Theotokos to the Temple. His Grace celebrated the Divine Liturgy and blessed the Chapel in Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast. During his stay in the Vancouver area, he also visited various parishioner's homes. His Grace baptised a little baby – Ethan Michael Simon Koke (Fr. Stephen's grandson).
