Our Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Sobor is turning 100! What a significant year for all of us! What happiness and spiritual uplift we all experience! The joy of Faith and the unity of spiritual piety fill our hearts. We believe in One God, the Trinity Consubstantial and Indivisible!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was born into an Orthodox family in Rostov-on-Don, and although going to church was not popular in those years, my grandparents, and then my mother, took me with them to services from childhood. That is how I learned Orthodoxy. When they began to restore destroyed monasteries in Russia, my mother and I rejoiced at every piece of news and the opportunity to participate in this holy work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we were planning to move to Canada in 1995, our family was looking for an Orthodox church in Vancouver where we could kneel and pray to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Mother of God. We could not imagine life without a church. In Vancouver, we were met by friends, and to my question they answered: “Tomorrow, we will show you the Russian Orthodox Church.” This was the Holy Resurrection Church, which we entered and stayed in forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My mother never missed a single Sunday service, regardless of the weather or the availability of help on the way to the church, she always went to the service. So, we learned faith in the Lord from her. There was a man in the church from whom a magical radiance emanated – Father Andrey Somov. How he prayed and passed on to us his ability to immerse himself in prayer! His voice, his sermons still sound in our hearts. He knew how to explain the inexpressible and incomprehensible, making it accessible and understandable, and his words remained with us, changing us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Father Andrey always came to the aid of those in need and never allowed himself to be publicly thanked. He put in a huge amount of effort to decorate our church and maintain it in excellent condition. And Mother Henrietta, his faithful friend and devoted wife, patiently taught us to sing psalms and holiday hymns. She gave us icons, to which we fervently pray every Sunday. What a titanic work these two people did – we bow low to them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it became difficult for both of them to continue caring for their flock, Father Andrey managed to find a worthy successor and gave us a new, caring and energetic pastor. I can say with confidence that this was a worthy choice, which we, the parishioners, have never regretted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, Father Michael and Matushka Elena with their family appeared in our difficult life. The first service for Father Michael in our church was the baptism of our future son-in-law – Sasha. Immediately after the baptism, Father Michael married Sasha and Natasha, and then helped us to worthily send off my mother on her final journey. Later, Father Michael baptized our grandchildren, showing great patience for their restlessness and teaching them how to behave properly in the church. By his example, he showed how important the mission of the altar servers is in the liturgical process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All these years lived in Canada, we thank the Lord for His mercy, for giving us such a bright Church of the Holy Resurrection, and for a kind and sensitive pastor, patient and spiritually rich!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May the Church and our bright Holy Resurrection Sobor always remain the House of the Lord for us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
